Books and Music and Chocolate and Happy Victoria Day!

Music:

I'm probably the last person in the galaxy to get an iPod . . . but there it is. And now I've joined the bud-sporting set.  To be perfectly honest, I've nothing against Apple or iPods in general. I've rather longed for a music-playing device that would (theoretically) last longer than the sadly cheapish lemon of a mp3 player I had a few years ago (it didn't even last out the year).  What has held me back (aside from careful management of non-book-buying expenses, of course) are the silly ear buds.  I don't like things in my ears for some reason and I find myself thinking back nostalgically to the days when portable music devices came with earphones not buds.  On the other hand, I do like to take music with me wherever I go.  So, there it is.

Among the first lot of music downloads to the iPod were Bach's glorious, glorious cello suites, some Mumford & Sons, a little bit of The Decemberists, some Sibelius . . . so much wonderful listening ahead!

Books:

There's been a good amount of reading for work lately though, strangely, not a lot to share.  The Glenn Gould bio I read was, though interesting, not really about Glenn Gould.  The novel just the usual run-o-the-mill lit fic (lit fic really shouldn't be run-o-the-mill, ever.  But that's a post for another day).  Nothing to get overly excited about. [But has it really been a month since my last post?  Yikes.]  I did enjoy the Wahloo/Sojwall crime novel (Cop Killer).  Mr. Inkslinger was rewarded for his suggesting I read it with a new Wallander novel (new-to-him, that is) for his birthday.

Chocolate:

Eclair cake.  Not sophisticated, that's for sure, but creamy filling lounging happily between graham crackers . . . with a chocolate ganache topping? Yes, please.  This was my request for a simple, easy to make birthday cake for this year, and I'm still enjoying the leftovers!

In Other News:  HAPPY VICTORIA DAY to one and all!  What promised to be a cloudy-rainy day has turned into a sunny afternoon that beckons this writer to try the outdoors . . . I'm off to do something of which Victoria would approve! :)
