Waterfalls Again

In late May, and before the leg injury really got as bad as it was going to get, when it was still just mildly annoying, Mr. Inkslinger and I took a quick, low-impact trip to Lepreau Falls to look at an easily accessible, but still quite lovely, waterfall.  It boasts observations decks that make it easy to take pictures and appreciate the views (even if there are some areas that could use a bit of repair).  No climbing or hiking was required, which was a good thing, as I was babying the early injury as best I could (this, as it turns out, didn't really help).

I have to say that Guitard's Waterfalls of New Brunswick  has definitely become our go-to guide for mini-adventures in and around our area.

The only real disappointment we had was the shyness of the sun, which kept promising to make an appearance but never made good.  Ah well.  Cloudy days aren't so bad.

We're hoping to take in a few more (easily accessible) falls this summer and autumn, but the injury has set us back. Alas.  I can't really complain, however, as it could have been so much worse.

And, after all, planning an adventure is almost as fun as having one.  In the meantime, I will read about others who are having adventures and revel in both the imaginative experience and the sheer loveliness of words.

Happy Fourth! And Things of That Nature . . .

Celebrations!  Those are the days that make the ho-hums disappear faster. They can be little celebrations -- my sister and I used to make up our own holidays when younger with days like Puddleduck Day and Narnia Day -- or big ones, like Independence Day and Canada Day.

These past few months, we've kept all of our celebrations small due to a few health issues (it mostly involved a leg injury which is being sorted out and handled).  It did put a crimp in a few summertime plans, but all is moving forward and I'll just have to wait til next summer for any/all lost adventures.

We spent a very quiet Canada Day visiting our local museum and imbibing chocolate ice cream. What could be better than museums and chocolate?  Books? True, but there have been books as well. . .

  • Recently read and loved and can't wait for the next instalment:  The Language of Bees by Laurie R. King and The God of the Hive by same.  I can't say enough good things about the Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes novels of suspense! They just keep getting better and better.  The characters evolve naturally, deepening into the almost tangible. Love them!

  • Currently Reading and Enjoying: A small book on the brilliant, brilliant Elizabeth Bishop. The title is Elizabeth Bishop: Nova Scotia's "Home-made" Poet and it's by Sandra Barry.  I'm just at the beginning, but so far it's straightforward without being brisk and informative without being boring.

While I'm playing catch-up with my life, I hope to find time to post some photos of a recent waterfall visit as well as writing some more about the Mary Russell reads.  Until then, I hope today has been filled with all things good for you (and perhaps the good things even involved some fireworks? :). . .
